The Green Machine romped to victory in both the first and second qualifying tournaments in Wigan,, taking £10,000 each time. Van Gerwen defeated Michael Smith in the
UK Open Qualifying 1 final on Friday. He followed that up by beating Darren Webster in the second event on Saturday. Smith and Webster follow a long way behind, on £5,750 and £5,000 between them. Peter Wright's consistency over two days gives him fourth spot, having also accumulated £5,000. Matthew Edgar, Robert Owen and Dave Prins feature alongside the big names in the top 16. Jose Antonio Justicia Perales, whose clash with Adrian Lewis on Friday
made headlines, sits in 19th. Mickey Mansell has high hopes of replicating his 2017 run in Minehead. He sits in 32nd place, the last spot which guarantees a bye through to the tournament proper.
Some big names will have to perform in qualifiers 3-6 if they are to qualify for the UK Open. Rob Cross occupies the 96th and last spot in the Order of Merit. Thanks to defeats against Corey Cadby and Jamie Hughes, the world champion has not picked up a penny in prize money so far. Behind him is Raymond van Barneveld, who has lost to Krzysztof Ratajski in consecutive days. Gary Anderson, Dave Chisnall and Benito van de Pas are among the big names currently out of contention.
