The PDC Development Tour returns this weekend for the 4th set of events in Barnsley with four £10,000 tournaments being held at the venue synonymous with Pro Tour darts along with Wigan's Robin Park Tennis Centre.
The PDC Unicorn Development Tour allows players aged from 16-23 to compete throughout the year, with five double-header weekends being staged.
Players can compete from the day which they turn 16. Players aged 23 on January 3 2017 can compete in all 2017 tournaments, regardless of the date which they turn 24 meaning that tour card holders like Josh Payne, Dimitri van den Bergh and even Benito van de Pas who will be in this years' World Youth Championship can play in these events and hone their skills to take onto the big stage.
Luke Humphries currently leads the Order of Merit with the non tour card holder competing on both DT and Challenge Tour this season and after missing out on a tour card through the Challenge Tour route he will be aiming to win the Development Tour to win a 2 year card.
In 2nd position is one of the Dunvegan Darts stable in Adam Hunt who recently lost his tour card but has been playing well on the Development Tour this year as well as on the Pro Tour where he has made up the numbers.
Also in the running is Dimitri van den Bergh who won't win a card due to him already having one meaning it could be a big few weekends for Kenny Neyens who currently doesn't have a tour card and also Ryan Meikle who despite having one could be in danger of losing it come the end of the season.
The PDC will be hoping to avoid the situation which occurred last season when Dean Reynolds dominated to not take the card and stay in the BDO but with all of the players only playing PDC there is no danger of that.
