Now in its 4th year, the Perth World Series event has produced some exceptional darts and big memories in its short history.
Phil Taylor has, since the world series began, been the man to beat down under as he dominated for the first 2 years. His only loss in the event coming at the hands of now World Youth Champion Corey Cadby. The youngster made his television debut in Sydney last year and lost 6-3 to Taylor, only for Cadby to exact his revenge on the greatest player of all time one week later.
Taylor averaged a cool 111.65 in that loss. The second highest in the events history. Such has his dominance been, Taylor hold 5 of the top 10 tournament averages ever recorded in the competition.
Michael van Gerwen holds 3 of the top 10, including a staggering 118.21 against Paul Nicholson in the 2014 quarter final stage. MvG is also the only man other than Taylor to have tasted victory in Perth. The world number 1 took full advantage of Taylors early exist last year and beat Dave Chisnall 11-4 in the final.
Peter Wright and Corey Cadby are the other 2 names on the list for top averages. Whilst they are a guide, a good average isn’t always an indicator of a good game. However, the paid both averaged 109+ against each other at the quarter final stage last year in an epic contest.
The action gets underway on Friday, and we’re hoping Perth can once again deliver some world class darting action.
