Gary Anderson thrashes Peter Wright to win Players Championship 3

The newly crowned UK Open champion thrashed the man he took the title from. Anderson averaged 101.3 as he whitewashed Peter Wright 6-0 in Barnsley. He is the first player other than Michael van Gerwen to win a Players Championship event in 2018. With the Dutchman absent, Anderson beat the two players above him in the Order of Merit en route to the title.
The Flying Scotsman started with a narrow 6-5 win over Terry Jenkins. He then beat Gary Eastwood and Simon Stevenson 6-4. Anderson's first 6-0 win of the day came against the world champion, Rob Cross. That was followed by 6-3 wins over Steve Hine and Jamie Lewis.
The final turned out to be a straightforward affair. The world number four was immediately on the offensive, hitting a 180 as he broke throw. A hold was followed by a 12-darter to break, which culminated in Anderson checking out 90 on the bull. Wright was left to rue yet more missed darts at the double in leg four, allowed the two-time world champion to go further clear. A 14-darter made it 5-0. Wright then missed two darts at double 16 to extend the match. Anderson pounced, checking out 48 to seal victory.
