Van Gerwen is first up tonight in a quarter-final against Simon Whitlock. 'Mighty Mike' defeated Alan Norris earlier today in a great game between the pair while Whitlock defeated Dave Chisnall despite being under the weather. Van Gerwen will have his sights firmly on winning the European Darts Open while Whitlock will be hoping to be the man who stops him.
The winner of that will face the winner of the unseeded tie between Ron Meulenkamp and Richard North. Meulenkamp has shown his semi-final in Riesa last year was no fluke by once again showing how good he is. He faces Richard North who disposed of Rob Cross, the World Champion in a last leg thriller earlier today.
On the other side of the draw, the aforementioned Peter Wright faces Joe Cullen. Wright comfortably beat John Henderson while Cullen came through a thriller with Chris Dobey so it should be a good game between the pair.
Finally Mervyn King faces James Wade. King battled through the pain barrier to defeat Mensur Suljovic while Wade continued his return to form defeating Michael Smith in the best game of the day so far. Wade could be seen as a dark horse to win the title and it's no wonder why.
