The final two first round games of the first day of action at the World Cup are complete with Scotland and Japan through meaning an expected win and a shock in Frankfurt.

Scotland banished memories of Singapore defeating them at this point last year by smashing the American pairing of Larry Butler and Darin Young 5-1. The top seeds for the World Cup of Darts gelled well together showing some real form. Young was the shining light for the USA but Butler did not perform well which was their downfall.
Finally though in the big performance of the night. Japan beat Austria in a deciding leg to pull off the only shock so far in the tournament. Seigo Asada and Haruki Muramatsu, two players who are well established in both steel and soft tip darts performed brilliantly against Mensur Suljovic and Zoran Lerchbacher.
There were some jitters towards the end which prevented an easier win; but a brilliant victory was sealed in the end with Japan having the throw in the decider. Suljovic performed okay but was let down by Lerchbacher as well as the brilliance of Japan.
