FREEPIX Darts Hopp v Lewis sw105b65d

The seeded player has fallen in all of the first five games of the German Darts Grand Prix second round.

Kim Huybrechts, Mervyn King and Kyle Anderson joined Gerwyn Price and Dave Chisnall in crashing out in Munich. Tenth seed Huybrechts was the first to be toppled. Steve West closed out a scrappy 6-3 win against the Belgian. West's German Darts Grand Prix began with a 79 average against Paul Rowley, but the Essex man was much improved on Sunday afternoon. Huybrechts struck early to break, but 'Simply' struck back to go 2-1 up. A 106 checkout levelled the scores before the Englishman edged in front. In a tie defined by dodgy double-hitting, it was fitting that double one saw West to victory.
Then came King's turn in the firing line. He had the 3,000-strong Munich crowd to contend with, as the German fans gave vociferous backing to home favourite Max Hopp. The Maximiser did not disappoint, coming out the 6-4 winner with a 96.8 average. He was up against it early on, as King established a 2-0 lead. A first 180 of the tie galvanised the youngster, who levelled at 2-2, and went on to check out 104 to make it 3-3. The pair then traded legs, before Hopp claimed a vital break. Under pressure from the veteran, the German star kept his cool, and saw out the win. He takes on Mensur Suljovic or Danny Noppert on Monday.
Anderson appeared to be in no trouble at all as he romped into a 3-1 lead over Alan Tabern. A classy 138 checkout had the Aussie well on his way to victory. But squandering 11 darts at a double in the sixth leg allowed Tabern to level the scores. The Englishman checked out 106 to take the lead, but Anderson claimed two legs on the bounce to wrestle it back. Tabern was not finished, however. Double ten forced a decider, and also served to see the Original out of the tournament.
