Humphries stuns Price, Webster downs Chisnall in thriller

Luke Humphries and Darren Webster were the first two winners on day two of the German Darts Grand Prix.

2017 Development Tour winner Humphries provided a major shock. The 23-year-old thrashed a sorry Gerwyn Price 6-1. A 100.8 average was more than enough to see off the Iceman in Munich. A maximum and a 171 in the opening two legs set up winning doubles, and a 12-darter made it 3-0. Price then got what proved to be a consolation leg, before the Newbury ace stepped in to re-establish a three leg lead. Three became four, after Price missed darts at tops and the youngster made it 5-1. The Premier League struggler failed to apply the pressure in the seventh leg. That allowed Humphries to round off one of the biggest wins of his burgeoning career.
Webster then wowed the crowd with a superb 6-5 victory over Dave Chisnall. The Demolition Man opened with a 180 and took the first leg, despite Chisnall wiring double 18 for a 150 checkout. The world number seven responded in style, firing in a maximum and a 125 in the second of three consecutive legs won. Checkouts of 100 and 111 kept the Norwich ace in the game, but an 11-darter put Chisnall 5-3 ahead. The St Helens man was within touching distance of a second round berth. But Webster bounced back, checking out 76 to make it 5-4. A showpiece 129 finish - treble 19, followed by two in the double 18 bed - took the match to a decider. And the diminutive darting dynamo saved his best for last, finding double six to round off a 12-darter.
