Phil Taylor bowed out of professional darts at the end of last year and is now one of the most in demand players on the exhibition circuit but he has not ruled out a return to darts in the future.
Taylor sat down with Tungsten Tales at the World Matchplay and admitted that he’d potentially return if given a wildcard into the World Championship.
Also he spoke highly of the idea to potentially put World Champions in the mix at the expanded event such as himself, Keith Deller, Bob Anderson.
“If Barry wanted me to do something we’d have to sit down and have a real good chat about it” said Taylor who is back working for Sky Sports at this year’s World Matchplay.
“It’d have to be a wildcard but wildcards I’ve never agreed with them to be honest with you”
On a potential showdown between him and Van Gerwen on pay-per-view and whether it would appeal to him he said: “Yeah I think so. But I’d have to have time to get ready. I don’t practice like I used to, I’m not dedicated like I used to be”.
Also he spoke about the idea of potentially bringing World Champions back for the new expanded format: “I thought that’s not a bad idea.”
As well as going on to name the likes of John Lowe, Bobby George, Bob Anderson & Keith Deller and saying on him being involved “Of course I’d consider it, it would be good fun”.
