Phil Taylor will not be a part of the playing line up this year at the World Matchplay but will be a pundit and commentator for Sky Sports like his mentor Eric Bristow was.

In an interview with the Mirror, Taylor spoke about Bristow and how much he still misses the Crafty Cockney. So much so that he has not deleted his phone number and nearly calls occasionally due to what he says is a little barrier in his head. For him there will never be another Eric. He said: “I do miss Eric, all the time – I still have his number stored on my phone. Sometimes I think of calling it to see if he answers, it’s awful” “There’s a little barrier in my head, thinking he’s not gone. He was such a big character, like my mum and dad, that they will ever die in my eyes. Their influence will always be there, they will always be in your heart. But there will never be another Eric. “Bobby George made me laugh – he rang me up and said he had done an interview on talkSPORT. They asked him how long he had known Eric, and he replied, 'I knew him for 45 years, but I only liked him for three!' That’s Eric for you.”
