Fresh from his 16th World Matchplay triumph, Phil Taylor had the test of the unknown Darren Herewini also known as 'Apocalypse' on his return to the World Series of Darts.
Taylor missed D20 for a 125 checkout but Herewini missed one dart at bull meaning Taylor could hit tops for a break. Taylor though got broke straight back and after missing five darts at double, Herewini hit D2 to level up. This didn't last long and Taylor hit back with a 101 checkout to go back in front.
Taylor continued on going 7 darts into a 9 darter missing T19 but eventually sealed it with D16 to make it 3-1 and Herewini who held his own on his debut hit a classy 68 checkout to make it 3-2. He continued his momentum including his first 180 and the Kiwi hit D2 to make it 3-3. Herewini though messed up his chance of a 4-3 lead and Taylor converted D16 to make it 4-3 and he continued that checking out 69 to go to within 1 of the next round. Herewini came back with a brilliant 11 darter checking out 46 to stay in contention at 5-4 down but Taylor came through to win 6-4.

Following this we have former European Champion Simon Whitlock taking on the best player in New Zealand, 'Code Star' Cody Harris.
After messing up the set up for the first leg, Harris was let off as Whitlock missed the Shanghai outshot and he cleaned up with a 46 to make it 1-0. Whitlock hit tops to make it 1-1 in a poor leg for both men. Whitlock followed it up with 64 checkout to break and make it 2-1. After losing it his throw, we got a strong leg from Harris who hit a 12 darter to make it 2-2.
More messy darts from Harris on his throw were punished in the end by the Aussie ace who broke again to make it 3-2 and the following leg despite Whitlock looking a certain hold, Harris hit a sensational 122 checkout to level up. Whitlock though broke again who hit a 10-darter with D18.
A stray dart at D1 ended up in D18 for Whitlock meant that on the second time of asking, Harris punished with a D7 checkout to break again but another break occured in the following leg with 'The Wizard' taking out 46 to go within one and missed darts from Harris allowed the Aussie ace to go through winning 6-4
