Van den Bergh missed a 170 in a match that went all the way to a decider but held his nerve in his next shot to claim a huge victory.
Both players averaged 97 in the end with four 180’s each and almost the exact same checkout percentage. This showed how much of a close affair this clash was but it is the young Belgian who makes it through after beating a player many fancied for the title.
Speaking of brilliant performances, over on Board 2,
Gerwyn Price continues to do the business. After being behind against another of the players of the weekend in Jamie Hughes, he roared back with the support of many in Red’s Bar to claim the win.
This had an icing on the cake with two 167 checkouts including one to win and that performance showed that he definitely is the man to beat in darts at the moment.
Other board action is now finished with the likes of Cristo Reyes, Jermaine Wattimena and Simon Stevenson winning through and joining the line up for the Last 16.
