Rob Cross is through successfully to the Last 16 to complete the line-up for later on this evening at the UK Open by seeing off Mervyn King who of course saw off Michael van Gerwen on Friday night.
Cross did so with a sublime 143 checkout in a performance that will send out a message to the rest of the field that he is still to beat.
He began the match by opening up a 4-1 lead over King with a brilliant 138 checkout underlining his dominance.
Missed doubles costed King throughout and this showed as Cross was able to extend his lead soon after to 5-2.
He stretched out to 7-3 in front which is when potentially some problems could have arose with getting over the line.
Despite a superb 126 checkout followed by an 11 darter on double 16 by King, Cross went up a gear once more and got the job done.
