Van der Voort got the first set; but from there onwards Ilagan was set darts away from stealing the initiative himself. He averaged 94.06 in the win hitting two 180’s; compared to Ilagan’s 95.52 with five 180’s.
Ilagan pressured with a 180 to try and break but Van der Voort held his throw in the opening leg with a brilliant double 20 in a 91 checkout. He doubled his lead with a double eight in a leg where he hit a 180 on his way to breaking the throw.
Ilagan missed double twelve for the break of throw but wasn’t punished by the Dutch Destroyer who was sitting on double 20. He pinned it at the fifth attempt to break.
It was Van der Voort who claimed the first set though pinning double 20 in a 60 checkout shot. Ilagan started the next set better holding his throw on double 20 but Van der Voort soon squared it up.
Despite that though, ‘The Gunner’ streaked to the set hitting brilliant outshots of 120 and 81 with both players averaging 98 after two sets.
Ilagan hit a 180 at the start of the next set and claimed the leg on double 10 after Van der Voort missed a 78 checkout. He couldn’t continue his dominance missing leg darts to hold his throw and this allowed Van der Voort the all important break. Ilagan though wasn’t going to let him gain a stranglehold and he once again hit an 81 checkout to break back.
He missed double eight for the set in a 92 checkout combination and as a result, Vincent broke back to force a decider. Ilagan had all his hard work taken away in the next leg; with Van der Voort claiming the set with a 68 checkout in what was a 13 darter.
The Filipino ace took the first two legs of the next set hitting 106 and double 12 to go within one leg of levelling up in sets. He was halted though after missing set darts by Van der Voort who cool as you like hit a 79 checkout first time.
Ilagan missed more darts for the set missing a 117 checkout and this allowed Vincent to go one away. Van der Voort sealed the deal on double 20 to move through after a real tough test.
