It was that tense that both players missed strings of match darts only for Devon to finally claim the tie; with an 84 average, high checkouts of 121, 120 and 101 with four 180's.
The first set was sent to a decider with Jones pegging Petersen back with a 96 checkout to force this. Petersen though despite this confidently walked off the stage having claimed the set with a brilliant 94 checkout.
‘The African Warrior’ started the next set by breaking the throw of Jones as he looked to extend his advantage. He pinned a 101 checkout to extend his lead and go one away from winning the second set. Jones missed the chance to claim a leg back and Dancing Devon cleaned up to take a two set lead.
‘The Wanderer’ wasn’t going to give up though and smashed in a 102 checkout to break the throw of the South African. He extended that lead by two hitting double 12 to ask the question of Devon. Devon hit a 180 in the next leg but Jones clinched it by three legs to nil.
He hit another in the next leg but despite that Jones held his throw pinning a 64 checkout on double eight. Jones went five legs on the spin in the next leg to go one away from tying it up with an 83 checkout on the bull.
Despite that though and him looking like he would take the match in the deciding leg, Jones stayed in there to force a deciding set
At the start of the deciding set, Petersen held his throw to start it off. Both players hit 180’s but it was Jones who also held his throw. Devon once again held his throw with a 120 checkout to extend his doubles to 56 percent. Jones sent it to sudden death with a 5 (1,D2) outshot.
Both players missed strings of match darts but it was Dancing Devon who claimed the victory to end a tense sudden death leg.
