Van Gerwen spoke afterwards and heaped praise on his opponent calling him phenomenal in a game that according to the World Number One had everything. "It's the first time I've played here and I wanted to win so I'm really glad I did," said Van Gerwen. "Ian was phenomenal and he pushed me to the end. What more can you want, winning the title in a good game and with a good crowd - that makes darts. "It was a good game - high scoring, some drama in the game and the game had everything. I felt good, but I had to work hard today and I'm really glad I could manage it."
