Michael van Gerwen claimed yet another Premier League title last night defeating Michael Smith 11-4 at the O2 Arena and as well as claiming the winners cheque and title, MVG also set another new record.
The Premier League started in 2005 with Phil Taylor defeating Colin Lloyd 16-4 with a 101 average and since he then set the record in 2010 by defeating James Wade with an 111 average this has not been beat.
This was last night by Van Gerwen who hit an average of 112.37 in defeating Smith and it was one of the highest averages recorded in a TV final as well.
'Mighty Mike' who enjoys looking at his statistics and improving on them will be as a result very happy to see this and will look to improve his record next year.

- I dont like individuals or crowds trying to put any player off when they are trying to check out, how anyone can think its okay for the crowd to whistle or shout as someone is throwing for a double is beyond me but it does seem to have become part and parcel of the modern game. I no longer play now, darts is as good as dead at a local level round my way but when i did play many years ago, no matter how intense the rivalry you never shouted out or whistled when an opponent from the other team was throwing for a double.Mysstree17-11-2024
