Van Gerwen overcomes slow start to beat Whitlock in Leeds

Michael van Gerwen came from 2-0 behind to beat Simon Whitlock in tonight's opening fixture in the Premier League Darts.

Whitlock has made a habit of finishing chances in this years Premier League, and he started today in the same fashion. Missing bullseye for a 170 in the opener, but taking the leg in the next visit. The Wizard also broke the throw in the second leg after MvG missed a dart at double 20, the first of 14 missed darts at a double.
The world number one responded by breaking his opponent back in 13 darts, before levelling up with a 14-dart leg. The match stayed competitive throughout, with Whitlock clinging on to the tail of MvG as he tried to kick on.
The Dutchman eventually broke the shackles at 4-4. A scrappy 19 dart hold of throw was followed by a 15 and a 14 darter to seal victory for a clearly frustrated Mighty Mike.
