Van Gerwen presented with Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau medal: 'It is a wonderful honour for me'

Michael van Gerwen has today received his medal to signify him being a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau which is similar to the MBE awarded in the UK.
He was handed his medal by the major on behalf of the King Willem-Alexander and spoke about this calling it a wonderful honour. Van Gerwen is also as he says the youngest to receive one so he is really proud as a result.
“It is a wonderful honour for me,” said 'Mighty Mike'.
“It is something really special and something I didn’t expect so young. I am told I am the youngest to receive this award so I am really very proud.
“It is a great occasion from me and my family and I will always be very proud.”

- Maybe the supposed top players are burnt out from the endless travelling and tournaments, I just don't think they have the dedication or outright desire to win. I think they are more interested in the money and being popular, just keeping their rankings steady. The only thing that mattered to Phil Taylor was winning, not winning a few games to top up the money pot and seeking the fans attention. Maybe there is too many tournaments now and the enthusiasm is gone. This year especially has seen so many different winners and unexpected draws and line ups.richieburnettrocks14-11-2024
