For Van Gerwen he responded to the critics after a poor spell in parts by smashing Cristo Reyes 6-0 in a whitewash.
He averaged 109 as he sent out a message not only to the critics but the fellow players in Hildesheim that to win this weekend they have to get through him.
Jenkins on the other hand came through in a close encounter with Ian White. The Bull announced his retirement previously but has seemingly come back for one last crack. It wasn’t brilliant from him but it was enough to make it through.
