Mighty Mike had even more pressure on him as a result of his World Championship win but he lived up to his billing.
This included a brilliant 170 showpiece checkout for the second time this weekend.
He averaged 99 meaning he still had more in the tank but as is usual in Finals involving MVG he takes control early meaning his opponent has a mountain to climb.
Despite not winning Wade will be pleased with this weekend after reaching yet another televised final to start the new season.
The opening five legs went with throw with Van Gerwen claiming a 3-2 lead at the first break.
Van Gerwen though soon claimed the first break of the match. Wade missed darts at both double 12 and double six allowing MVG in to pin double 20.
From there the big turning point was the 170 checkout from Van Gerwen which put him 7-3 up.
Wade broke straight back to go 7-4 behind but this proved futile with Van Gerwen romping to another title.
