Robert Thornton hailed his wife after winning a thriller against James Richardson yesterday which saw 'The Thorn' creep further back into form after showing some brilliant darts at the last major he played at, the World Grand Prix.
He spoke after winning 6-5 which included a 9 dart attempt which was on the wire on D12 and said 'I think I just wanted to win it too much. I wanted to win for my wife Chrissy who couldn't be here today after a knee op last week'.
'There were a few complications with the op and she can't travel now. She's always usually at tournaments with me. I wanted to give her something to smile about'.
A former finalist in this tournament previously he later said he hopes like with that final where he went up the rankings as a result that this weekend it 'can do the same'.
He faces Chris Dobey later today in what is bound to be a thrilling battle between two players returning to form at just the right time of year before the World Championships.
