Steve West is through to the third round at the PDC World Darts Championship after seeing off Richard North in a game that could have gone the distance had North been more proficient on the doubles.

West went two-nil up and was seemingly cruising towards a straight sets victory over 'Lionheart' but despite this North came back nearly sending it into a final set. West started the match by punishing missed doubles from North who claimed the first set in consecutive legs to start his charge and he followed that up with another brilliant salvo which included a 164 checkout from 'Simply'. He then strengthened his grip further on the tie by edging the second set 3-2 which doubled his lead with a 97 average and four 180's at this point. North's troubles continued as West sent the match to a decider but the Romsey ace claimed the set finally to cling on to the tie. This spurred 'Lionheart' on who showed spirit akin to his nickname as he went two-nil up in the next set but he couldn't force a decider missing multiple darts to do so which allowed West progression through to the next round. for more information about the PDC World Darts Championship, including schedules and the prize fund breakdown.
