Whitlock & Suljovic come through close matches, Bunting whitewashes Smith

We have had 3 contrasting matches to start the evening session in Zwolle. Simon Whitlock and Mensur Suljovic, two seeded players came through tough, close matches while Stephen Bunting smashed Michael Smith 6-0 in the performance of the tournament so far.
'The Wizard' started off proceedings and he performed brilliantly before a late fightback from Dekker. Whitlock weathered the storm though to produce a 6-4 win with a 97 average, 6 maximums and a 38% checkout percentage.
Suljovic will face the Aussie after coming through a tough battle with a 6-5 victory over Josh Payne. 'The Gentle' got over the line though meaning he wasn't the latest seed to fall.
Michael Smith though one of the highest seeds did fall though. The 'Bully Boy' was smashed by his fellow St Helens ace Stephen Bunting in a whitewash where 'The Bullet' lived up to his good record against the in form player with a 106 average to boot.

If it is going to be done to English players, then we are more than entitled to dish the same back when players face off in England. - I dont like individuals or crowds trying to put any player off when they are trying to check out, how anyone can think its okay for the crowd to whistle or shout as someone is throwing for a double is beyond me but it does seem to have become part and parcel of the modern game. I no longer play now, darts is as good as dead at a local level round my way but when i did play many years ago, no matter how intense the rivalry you never shouted out or whistled when an opponent from the other team was throwing for a double.Mysstree17-11-2024
