Rob Cross is taking a darting sabbatical and won't be competing in Zwolle. That's good news for Steve Lennon, who earns instant passage to Sunday's action. Seven winners were confirmed in the afternoon session. Eight more will be known by the end of the evening. One of the hopefuls is defending Dutch Darts Masters champion Michael van Gerwen, who undoubtedly has a target on his back.
In the evening's first tie, Simon Whitlock looks to bounce back from finishing eighth in the Premier League with a decent Dutch run. He takes on home nation qualifier Jan Dekker, who has the capacity to be a dangerous opponent - as Adrian Lewis found out in the first round. Then Mensur Suljovic takes to the Zwolle stage, with world youth finalist Josh Payne standing in his way. Payne performed well to see off Austrian Darts Open winner Jonny Clayton on Friday. That's followed by an intriguing all-English class. Michael Smith and Stephen Bunting meet in a battle for St Helens dominance. If both get into their stride, there'll be fireworks.
2017
European Tour Player of the Year Peter Wright is yet to get into his stride this season. A win over James Wilson could be the catalyst for a morale-boosting run. Jelle Klaasen is another man struggling for form. Opponent Krzysztof Ratajski can be quite the banana skin for vulnerable seeds. Following a superb Friday evening win over James Wade, Cristo Reyes now has world number five Daryl Gurney in his sights. Then comes van Gerwen, looking for a fifth consecutive Dutch Darts Masters crown. The first player tasked with halting his inexorable march to glory is Terry Jenkins, who'll need the benefit of all of his years of experience. Another golden oldie in the form of Steve Beaton then meets Darren Webster, who's on a high after breaking into the top 16 in the Order of Merit.
The action begins at 6.15pm, live on
PDC TV.
