The first day of Winmau
World Masters action for 2017 has come to an end. The day started with the boys and girls finals which were won by two of the fast rising stars on both sides in Nico Blum who is known this year as making two PDC Euro Tour events despite only being 16 and Beau Greaves who is touted as the next big thing in ladies darts.
Following that the womens' action kicked off proceedings in the Spa in Bridlington, Sarah Roberts defeated Deta Hedman 4-3 in the first shock of the day.
Following that Corrine Hammond came through a close encounter with qualifier Mikuru Suzuki to go into the semi-finals.
Following Corrine is another of the stars of the women's tour in Lorraine Winstanley, she defeated former world champion Anastasia Dobromyslova in the match of the day on the Womens' draw. Tricia Wright was the final Ladies' semi-finalist defeating Trina Gulliver to get through.
On the mens' side, despite being 2-1 up, Neil Duff lost to the more experienced Mark McGeeney, Martin Phillips followed that up by defeating Toon Greebe 3-0.
Ross Montgomery was the next out after winning 2 titles over the weekend but this wasn't enough as James Hurrell smashed him 3-0.
The German qualifier Gabriel Clemens was the next to get a whitewash defeating Chris Lanman 3-0.
Jim Williams was one of only a few seeds to make it through defeating
BDO legend Tony O'Shea in a deciding set. Cameron Menzies continued his great form beating Mark McGrath 3-1.
