Not many would have predicted that Peter Wright could get relegated from the Premier League. But, after an atrocious night in Nottingham, Snakebite’s elimination is a distinct possibility.

Wright tumbled to a second 7-1 thrashing of the week at the Motorpoint Arena. This time it was Michael Smith who did the damage. Thanks to Daryl Gurney’s fourth 6-6 draw of the season, Wright slips into the bottom two on leg difference. Gerwyn Price remains winless and two points adrift of safety after defeat to Michael van Gerwen in Nottingham. The trio – plus Mensur Suljovic, who joins Wright and Gurney in having four points – have three weeks left to save themselves. With things the way they are, Wright’s meeting with Gurney on Judgement Night in Liverpool could be decisive.

Things are looking much rosier for Wright’s conqueror, Smith. Bully Boy boosted his leg difference, but not quite by enough to knock van Gerwen off the top of the table. The pair meet next week in Glasgow. Rob Cross thrilled the Nottingham crowd with a superb 106.49 average as he saw off Suljovic. The 7-2 success, his fourth Premier League win in a row, sends him up to third. Having won none of his last three games, Simon Whitlock sits in fourth. After sharing the spoils in the final game of the night, Raymond van Barneveld and Gary Anderson are fifth and sixth respectively.
