Dutchman breaks world record in fight against children's cancer

Roy Otten from Beuningen has set a new world record. The Dutchman threw his darts at the board for no less than one hundred hours without interruption in the fight against children's cancer.

Otten achieved this world record in café De Schutterberg in Arnhem, where he made his effort in favour of the Prinses Maxima Centrum in Utrecht. In that centre, children with cancer are treated. "Never again", Otten tells his story to De Gelderlander. "He still has 6.5 minutes to go. Walking has almost become shuffling. Yet he still hits his score on the laptop every time."

Overcome by emotions

After throwing his last darts, Otten was overcome by emotions. "I am relieved. In the end, the record attempt yielded some 2,000 euros. And that kept me going. Two days ago, I was a little drained, but after I thought about what I was doing it for, I regained my energy.

Otten has also made a number of record attempts in the past. I have now made four attempts in total, but this was the last. It's been good," says the Dutchman, who now gets an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.
