Gates 'on top of the world' after becoming North American Champion: "Only thing I wish is that my mom was here to see this"

Leonard Gates sealed the 2022 North American Darts Championship and will head to Ally Pally in December after seeing off Danny Baggish in the final.

"It's amazing right now, the feeling is overwhelming but just to be on top of the world at this moment right now. Only thing I wish is that my mom was here to see this," said Gates to PDC post match.

He also makes history as the first player to win a title at Madison Square Garden after seeing off a close friend in Baggish.

"That's history and hope it continues for me. Danny is very experienced and in form and I said "I can't let up on this guy". He's a great friend and a great dart player, and to do that against him says a lot.

"I've got much respect for Danny, we've been playing against each other for years and I knew what I had to do to beat him."

Getting the Spartan chant, Gates hopes to capture the imagination of the crowd in London.

"I'm so delighted because the crowd there is going to be like this guy made it so I'm going to be there to represent and be in that atmosphere and play some good darts."

"The energy that they have over there is something to look forward to.
