One of the best things about darts is the showmanship and pageantry – it’s a sport that always goes with the more is more mentality and is a lot of fun, however, every now and again things get taken too far!

Bob Anderson is known as the Limestone Cowboy – a tribute to his home county Wiltshire’s Limestone production and his Wild West dress sense. Bob Anderson was a part of the original incarnation of the PDC and an era when darts walk ons were becoming as entertaining as the sport itself.

Someone then had the bright idea for the Limestone Cowboy to bring a live horse with him to the Oche – fine in theory, as it was an incredible spectacle, but one thing wasn’t considered ‘How will the horse and Bob get along?’ Another Famous Cowboy Clint Eastwood is famously allergic to horses and in a bizarre mirror of that it seems that horses actively dislike Cowboy Bob Anderson!

''I am the only cowboy in the world that doesn’t like horses…that’s not actually true, I love horses but they don’t like me. Mostly they do one of two things they either rear up or they turn around and fart at me'', he said on MDA Events' YouTube channel.

When the PDC was televised on Sky Sports and showmanship was the name of the game Bob Anderson remembers the floor manager from Sky suggested that they were going to take him onto the stage with a huge 17 hand hunter.

''I said what are you going to do with all the crap on the stage…he said don’t worry hes trained…I said OH it will be from me!''

Looking back at it now Bob realises that although it is an iconic moment in both his career and darts as a whole, it was always only seconds away from disaster

''It would only take one loony with a cigarette stub to stick it on my arse or the horse’s arse and all hell would of broke loose!''

Its amazing how in 30 years darts has changed dramatically from a player entering the building on the back of a horse was something that genuinely happened!
