After an injury cruelly saw Michael van Gerwen forced to pull out of his semi-final tie with Dimitri Van den Bergh, people had wondered whether he would even be able to play at next Thursday's playoffs. According to the Dutchman, however, he will "100%" be there.
"It's okay I'm not going to take any risks. I've seen a specialist," van Gerwen tells Online Darts. "It is what it is you can't really chance it. The funny thing is that it came out of the blue. That's what worried me a bit but they told me it wouldn't get worse."
When attention turns to finals night and the likelihood of van Gerwen taking part at the O2 in London next Thursday, the Dutchman's answer is defiant.
"100% I will be there," he says immediately, leaving no one in any doubt. "Even with the same injury as yesterday, I will be there 100% because it's too important so I need to make sure I get my rest now and maybe I can play on the weekend I'm not too sure yet."
"There was not enough at stake to take that risk," he continues, explained his withdrawal from the Premier League tie with Van den Bergh. "If it was a World Championship semi-final I would have kept playing. It's another warning to yourself that you are human."
