2021 Premier League Darts set to return to ten player format, Challengers scrapped

The 2021 Premier League Darts is set to return to a ten player format with the Challengers format set to be scrapped.

The past two years due to a late injury to Gary Anderson have seen players compete in one off appearances giving players the Premier League experience as well as the adulation of their local crowd.

Luke Humphries was the only player to claim a win against Gary Anderson ironically against the player who the format was iterated for.

There were also draws for Stephen Bunting and Fallon Sherrock. This year will see the event move back to having ten players, with the bottom two players following Judgement Night being eliminated.

At the moment, the Premier League is set to be played between February and May but due to the Coronavirus pandemic, that could change as well.

"The idea at the moment is to keep options open, because if things have to change, then we don't want to be committed to something we can't uphold," PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter told The Darts Show podcast.

"We've put Q School back, we'll do The Masters at the end of January and then beyond that we are still reviewing our options."
