Jason Askew began proceedings and continued his fine form from last week averaging 96.8 in a 5-1 victory over David Evans as he looks to take his brilliance from the Icons of Darts League into A Night At The Darts and he showed that.
Evans himself nearly left his mark on the tie despite not claiming the victory and that was in missing double 12 for a nine-darter. As a result, 'Stretch' came so close to joining Luke Woodhouse's effort on the PDC Home Tour late last week.
Wessel Nijman also continued his points scoring exploits producing a brilliant 96 checkout on double 18, double 20 to claim a deciding leg win over Martin Adams in what was a brilliant contest.
It was then Russian ace Boris Koltsov's turn to begin his campaign and he produced brilliance in seeing off Jason Askew and diminishing the latter's brilliant start with a 105 average and 55 percent on his doubles.
David Evans then bounced back after his poor start by pipping Koltsov to the best performance so far in hitting a 103 average, four 180's and 5/6 on the doubles in seeing off fellow highflier Wessel Nijman.
It was then Martin Adams' turn to get in on the act claiming the final two points of the first half to make it even barring leg difference after seeing off Boris Koltsov 5-3 who put in an under par display compared to his first match. It is very much anybody's to win at this stage.
