April was a busy month on the PDC Pro Tour, with nine tournaments taking place across the Players Championships and European Tour events. Interestingly — or perhaps as a sign of the increasing strength in depth across the field — only one player managed to win more than one event during the month.
The six Players Championship events held in April produced five different winners. Josh Rock, Cameron Menzies, Damon Heta, and Jonny Clayton each picked up one title. Gerwyn Price stood out by claiming victory at both the ninth and twelfth tournaments of the season. Price has been in excellent form this year, consistently posting high averages and already winning three Premier League Darts nights. He currently sits in a play-off position in that competition.
Three European Tour events also took place in April, each with a different winner. Stephen Bunting triumphed at the International Darts Open, Michael van Gerwen claimed the German Darts Grand Prix, and Martin Schindler delighted the home crowd by winning the Austrian Darts Open this past weekend.
Below the main professional circuit, April also featured events on the PDC Women’s Series and several of the regional tours. The standout performer in the Women’s Series was Noa-Lynn van Leuven, who won two of the four events. Fallon Sherrock and Beau Greaves took the other two titles.
On the PDC Nordic & Baltic Tour, both April events were won by Sweden’s Andreas Harrysson. Meanwhile, the Asian Tour saw victories from Motomu Sakai, Mitsuhiko Tatsunami, Man Lok Leung, and Keita Ono, each picking up a single title.
The Pro Tour action continues in May, with several more tournaments lined up on the calendar. Given the strength and depth of the current circuit, it wouldn't be a surprise to see such a varied field of winners once again.
