Gary Anderson is through to the Quarter-Finals of the 2020/21 PDC
World Darts Championship after breezing past Devon Petersen in a straight sets victory.
Petersen played well scoring wise with five 180's and a 94 average but his doubling was his downfall with 4/14 (29%) compared to 12/12 (52%) from 'The Flying Scotsman' who now takes on Dirk van Duijvenbode or Glen Durrant next.
To begin the tie, Anderson had a bounceout going for a 126 and with Petersen
unable to pin the same target to hold, ‘The Flying Scotsman’ broke throw and
flew into a 2-0 lead on double 10 despite averaging just 83.
The first set was concluded with a clean sweep for Anderson
as he flew into an early lead. Petersen though roared back with a break in the form
of a 110 checkout and double his lead from there.
He began to pick up steam but Anderson smashed in a 160
checkout out of nowhere to pile pressure onto Petersen to conclude the set.
He didn’t and Anderson pinned double two to suddenly go
towards a two set lead after Petersen dominated the set. A 97 checkout saw
Anderson claim it 3-2 to suddenly head into a 2-0 lead.
A 70 checkout saw a 14 darter from Petersen to open the set
and hold but missed doubles continued to be a problem as he threw away the set
in a deciding leg and this handed Anderson daylight.
An 80 checkout followed by Anderson to continue his
procession through into the fourth set and a clean sweep followed from there
finished with a 64 checkout on double eight.
