World Champion,
Peter Wright will not add the
Grand Slam of Darts to his resume this year with
Nathan Aspinall sealing top spot in Group E and dumping 'Snakebite' out by a solitary leg in Wolverhampton.
Aspinall reeled off four consecutive legs to seal a 5-2 win and go through as group winner alongside
Alan Soutar who had done his job by defeating Fallon Sherrock but could've headed home with Wright missing the chance to save his skin at 4-2 down and add the leg he needed.
But last dart in hand, Aspinall hit double eight and will now face Jermaine Wattimena for a spot in the Quarter-Finals where he could face Soutar who is facing Jonny Clayton.
The Scot eased past Sherrock who ends winless and unable to produce the heroics of last year and this included an incredible 132 checkout using two bullseyes and double 16. Superb from Soots who moves through too.
