Nathan Aspinall produced a brilliant fightback to see off Scott Waites in a true World Championship classic on the final night before the Christmas break.
Aspinall survived multiple match darts as well towards the end and believes that this could be the scare he needs to win at the Alexandra Palace.
"That was a tough game to play in. He was fantastic and that put pressure on my from the start but I never gave in," said Aspinall.
"I managed to put the pressure back on to him and, luckily for me, he missed opportunities and I got the result.
"Sometimes you need a game like that. I can kick on now. Everything happens for a reason and maybe I'll be World Champion."
