Aspinall seized his reprieve from there to close it out 7-5 in a match which included eleven 180's in all from the pair.
Smith kicked off with a 180 to begin the contest but Aspinall smashed in a 121 on the bull for the opening leg. He squared it up at one a piece but it was the former who claimed the early lead with a 97 checkout for an 11-darter which saw a 3-2 advantage and a break of throw.
He went two clear with a 12-darter to hold and make it 4-2 and despite Aspinall holding his throw, Smith always stayed ahead.
Until a break of throw at 5-5 saw him get onto level terms and when Smith missed a dart at the bull, Aspinall made it three consecutive legs and from nowhere a guaranteed point. From there he closed out the victory with Smith missing more darts for a point.
