MY WORD 🤯 What have we just seen from these two? An absolutely staggering display of darts, with Nathan Aspinall winning 7-3 - averaging over 110 in doing so! The World Series at its finest 🪄 #NZDarts | Semi-Final 👉bit.ly/PDCTVLive
The final is set at the 2023 New Zealand Darts Masters with Nathan Aspinall set to face Rob Cross shortly in Hamilton with the former in particular in truly staggering form.
Aspinall sealed the World Matchplay title mere weeks ago and admitted that he hasn't picked up his darts since then.
But for 'The Asp', he is soon back on form with a 7-3 win over World Number One and World Champion, Michael Smith.
It was an awesome display which saw Smith average 107 in defeat. But Aspinall averaged 110 with six 180's and 63% on the doubles. Truly the man of the moment and on his way to potentially back-to-back titles.
It was costly darts at doubles that cost Smith early on as Aspinall edged into an early 4-3 lead averaging 102 taking out 90 to break. He held to consolidate at 5-3 with an 11-darter and broke again with another to go one away.
Albeit a 13 darter, Smith was sat on double 20 waiting to pounce but Aspinall didn't give him the opportunity sealing the win.
Next up is Rob Cross who surprisingly took down Gerwyn Price in a typical Clinical Cross display. He dethroned the defending champion with a display somewhat usurped by Aspinall, but still was superb.
He hit a 99.3 average, 50% on the doubles and three ton plus checkouts in taking Price down in a 7-3 win.
Both players in the final have not been fixtures of the World Series like the players they have beat, but both have shown why they've been selected. Who will be crowned champion?
