Luke Humphries will not make it a fifth
European Tour title of the season after losing in the second round of the
Hungarian Darts Trophy to
Boris Krcmar on Saturday evening.
Krcmar sealed a 6-3 success over the number two seed which boosts his European Championship hopes with a superb 97 average and three 180's to boot from the Croatian ace.
No player could hold their throw in the early going but it was Humphries who hit double two to surge ahead at 3-1 only to be broken back at 3-3 after missing a shot at double 16 for 110 and Krcmar returned for 62.
He consolidated for the first time at 4-3 before breaking again with a superb 11-darter at 5-3 with a 100 checkout and after Humphries couldn't get a shot at 128, the clutch finishing saw him hit double four last dart in hand to claim it.
But
Joe Cullen will be one of only a few seeded players so far into the next round after he saw off Martin Lukeman with some clutch doubling aiding 'The Rockstar' to snap a streak of multiple second round defeats in European Tour tournaments which potentially put his European Championship spot in danger.
Lukeman led to begin the tie going 4-3 up after breaking but a 72 checkout saw Cullen hold and get himself on parity before he surged to the finish hitting the bull for a 72 checkout followed by a clutch double 10 to claim it.
