Cameron Menzies plumbs his way to victory in fiery encounter with Rusty-Jake Rodriguez

With the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship now well underway at the Alexandra Palace, Cameron Menzies has taken the win in a fiery encounter over Rusty-Jake Rodriguez, 3-0.

After his plumbing shift earlier today, Cameron Menzies was showing no signs of being overworked early in his opening round tie. The Scotsman started very well, winning all three legs in the opening set with two 180s and just one missed dart at a double, to race into an early lead.

Menzies made it four legs on the spin to open the second set, before Rodriguez finally got off the mark in the following leg, pinning double top and erupting in relief afterwards. The Austrian also took the next to put himself in firm control of the set. Menzies fought back however and reeled off the subsequent two legs to take the set and move 2-0 up.

With six from eight on the outer ring, Menzies doubling was proving key in this emotional and fiery encounter. Keeping that up in the first leg of the third set, Menzies held throw but after he missed two darts to break, Rodriguez was able to nail double 14 third dart in hand and punish. Two more darts came and went for Menzies in the following him and again he was made to pay. With both players seeing chances come and go in the fourth leg of the set, Rodriguez couldn't secure the set, with Menzies sending the set to a decider. After missing double 12 and double 6, Menzies eventually pinned double 3 to book his place in the second round.
