Last weekend the Dutchman
Michael Van Gerwen got himself another title to add to the collection. The World No.3 beat Nathan Aspinall 5-3 in the final to win the BoyleSports 2022 World Grand Prix making it his 61st televised title win. However 'Magic Mike' isn't on the same level as
Phil Taylor in terms of televised title win's. Although, after MVG's win this weekend he is getting closer to beating a different record of Phil 'The Power' Taylors.
After his win in Leicester Michael Van Gerwen has now won six titles at three different Premier TV events. There is now only Phil Taylor who has achieved that in more TV tournaments where he has won five different TV titles on at least six different occasions.
The current World No.3 Michael Van Gerwen has won:
Players Championship Finals- 2013, 2015, 2016 , 2017 , 2019 , 2020
Premier League- 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 , 2019, 2022
World Grand Prix- 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018 , 2019 , 2022
Where as Phil Taylor has won:
Grand Slam of Darts- 2007, 2008, 2009 , 2011 , 2013, 2014
PDC World Championships - 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2013
Premier League - 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012
World Grand Prix - 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013
World Matchplay - 1995, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017
One more Master's title and two more European Championships would be the quickest way for the Dutchman to equal the record. Can Michael Van Gerwen match or beat Taylor's record?
