Dave Chisnall is the final player through to the Last 16 of the 2020/21 PDC
World Darts Championship and will next have Dimitri Van den Bergh in his sights after a 4-2 sets victory.
Chisnall was 2-0 down but produced a brilliant comeback to see off the Dutchman with 11 180's, a 99 average and 41% on the doubles.
It was a nightmare start for Chisnall against the newly
adorned ‘The Freeze’ who coasted to the first set without reply. It was five
consecutive legs as Noppert took out 120 to double his lead in the second set.
He landed his second one to go 2-0 up to make it six legs
without reply and make Chisnall have to reply and quickly.
He did securing the third set 3-0 to get off the mark with
five 180’s and a 98 average as his comeback began with his first legs and set.
Noppert missed double 20 for a 68 checkout to break and send
it all the way but Chisnall pinned it last dart in hand.
Chisnall missed bull for a 121, Noppert had the same
opportunity but missed double 14 to break and the St Helens ace held to lead
for the first time in the match.
Noppert sparked to life with a 160 checkout to hold throw. Chisnall
though pinned double 12 to hold and go 2-1 up and towards a set lead.
Chisnall pinned a 180 to leave 48 after nine darts to break
throw and he pinned it to go 3-2 up. He missed bull for a 170 but led after Noppert’s
dart flicked off the other two into the four and he was suddenly two legs away
from the Last 16.
A 180 and double 20 saw him one away as he charged towards
the finishing line. Noppert missed 87 to get a leg back and Chisnall was back
at 50 for the win.
