The first semi-final is set up at the
Queensland Darts Masters with
Joe Cullen set to face
Michael van Gerwen as they renew their rivalry in Townsville.
Cullen started off the session by seeing off Dimitri van den Bergh meaning it won't be a hat-trick of World Series titles for the Dreammaker who priorly won in Amsterdam and Copenhagen.
But it could be a first ever for 'The Rockstar' who is making his debut Down Under and showing his prowess. He sealed a 6-4 success in a high quality affair.
This saw a 102.7 average from Cullen as well as two ton plus finishes, while it was more emphatic for Van Gerwen but only in scoreline terms.
Despite double trouble, MVG eased past Haupai Puha in a 6-1 win to seal his route through to the semi-finals. He hit another gear in the end after a poor start pinning 104 and 111 checkouts back to back to claim it.
This was despite being 1/12 to start the tie with Puha unable to punish MVG with the recent World Matchplay winner concluding on a 91 average and 6/18 on the outer ring which he will have to improve against his next opponent.
