Jonny Clayton is into the quarter-finals at the 2025 PDC Winmau World Masters in Milton Keynes, following an incredible comeback. After trailing 3-1, The Ferret roared back to win 4-3 over Ryan Searle.
Clayton was back to his brilliant best in the opening round, averaging over 115 in a straight sets victory over Martin Schindler. The Welshman started strongly in this contest too, taking the opening leg with a stunning 144 checkout to punish some missed darts on the outer ring from Searle. A few moments later, Clayton took the second leg of the opening set to race into an early lead.
Searle though, was by no means being outplayed and in the second set he got himself on the board to level up, despite Clayton actually going 1-0 in the second set. Suddenly the momentum was then firmly with Heavy Metal and Searle took full advantage in set 3, taking it in two straight legs to get in front a 2-1.
In the fourth set, the first two legs were shared, sending it to a decider. Clayton seemed to have the advantage, getting down to a double first, but after the Welshman spurned numerous set darts, Searle nailed double top last dart in hand to head into the break two sets clear.
Set 5 was also push to a deciding leg. This time, Searle forged himself a set dart too, but failed to find double 19 for the match. As Clayton pounced to punish, The Ferret got back in touch at 3-2 down. Showing how quickly the tide can turn in this Winmau World Masters format, Clayton then raced through set 6 and suddenly the match was all-square again and into a deciding 7th set.
After both players held throw, the match was sent all the way to a deciding leg in the deciding set. Searle had the darts in it, but Clayton was the man to score the better, getting down to a finish first. Requiring 62 for the match, Clayton went single 10, single 20, double 16 to seal the stunning comeback victory.
