Devon Petersen had a PDC Tour Card until 2023. The South African won the ‘ADC Global Championship’ last year and will make his comeback at the World Cup Darts next month alongside his compatriot Cameron Carolussen.
Building up the sport of darts in his country and by extension across Africa is close to Petersen's heart. The 38-year-old South African is therefore particularly proud to announce good news.
"We've created a darts centre in an area that is actually the murder capital of South Africa which is called Delft. Darts is certainly making a difference globally, we watch the sport we enjoy the sport. But understanding it can impact kids in different parts of the world," he said on an appearance on the Love the Darts Podcast with Sky Sports.
"Now South Africa has it all, we are launching that today. We took an outer building of a school, changed it completely and created one of the first darts centres in Cape Town. There's going to be four more out, it's exciting times but all of these things add on to me playing in the World Cup as well."
Petersen will also make his comeback at the World Cup of Darts next month after failing to qualify for the tournament in 2024.
This year's World Cup of Darts will take place from Thursday 12 to Sunday 15 June at the Eissporthalle in Frankfurt. The draw for this tournament will take place in the coming weeks.
"I did make the World Cup team again, it will be my return to the PDC stage after a long time so I think there's a lot of things happening and a lot of inspiring opportunities and things that I actually take inspiration from. Before it was Devon Petersen the ProTour player playing but now it is a comeback story. I feel like Rocky turning up and playing with Cameron Carolissen."
