Dave Chisnall will return to the second round of the
Players Championship Finals. After a disappointing Grand Slam where he could not play freely due to a back injury and lost three matches, he recorded a convincing 6-1 victory over Joe Cullen.
Chisnall held throw in the opening leg and then broke Cullen with a 63 finish. A 21-darter then made it 3-0. A moderately playing Cullen produced an 11-darter out of nowhere in the fourth leg, but could not follow up this flurry. Chisnall threw a 14-darter for 4-1 and then closed the match with a 13-darter and a 16-darter.
Jermaine Wattimena has secured a spot in the last 32 at the Players Championship Finals in Minehead. Mainly thanks to a good start, 'The Machine Gun' won 6-4 over Alan Soutar.
The first four legs all went to the Dutchman. Wattimena took his chances and hit 65, 97 and 68. The darter from Westervoort then became more sloppy and had trouble finding the triple. Soutar took his first leg with a 71 check-out and then took leg six and seven twice in six innings.
Wattimena, however, prevented Soutar from equalizing and made it 5-3 with a 15-darter. Soutar stayed in the match with a 13-darter, but Wattimena prevented a leg-decider with a 17-darter in the tenth leg.
Kim Huybrechts ruined Wessel Nijman's debut at the Players Championship Finals. The 24-year-old Dutchman mainly fell short in scoring against Huybrechts, who put in a fine performance with an average of 97 and a finishing percentage of 60 percent.
Only the first leg went to Nijman, who threw out 94. Huybrechts then took over the lead with a 17-darter and a 13-darter. The break was then cashed in with a 16-darter in the fourth leg. After Nijman missed tops to close to 2-3, Huybrechts produced a 111 finish for a second break. 'The Hurricane' then made it 5-1 with an 18-darter, before Huybrechts took the win with a 13-darter.
