Dave Chisnall has captured the overall victory at the 2024 Flanders Darts Trophy on Sunday night. With a win over surprise finalist Ricardo Pietreczko, 'Chizzy' put himself at the top of the honours list of the new European Tour tournament in Antwerp, Belgium.
For Chisnall, it is already his eighth Euro Tour title, and his second of the current season. Earlier this year, he also won the European Darts Open, while the Englishman was also successful on Belgian soil in 2022 by winning the Belgian Darts Open in Wieze.
Chisnall qualified for the Flanders Darts Trophy final by dealing with James Wade (6-2), Gabriel Clemens (6-2), Peter Wright (6-5) and Chris Dobey in succession. Pietreczko started his tournament with a 6-5 win over Andrew Gilding, then eliminated Danny Noppert (6-1), Dirk van Duijvenbode (6-4) and Luke Humphries (7-4).
The 43-year-old Englishman lost the first leg, but then took a 2-1 lead with two 14-darters. A 15-darter then put the score at 3-1. Pietreczko countered with a 66 finish, before Chisnall brought the margin back to two with a 16-darter. In the seventh leg, Chisnall missed one chance at tops for 5-2, then Pietreczko connected via double 18 to make it 4-3. The German then evened the score with an 82 finish, before taking the lead with a 14-darter.
The next three legs went with the darts. That sequence came to an end in the thirteenth leg as Chisnall broke with a 12-darter. Chizzy then finished it off with a 16-darter for the title.
With this final victory, Chisnall moves up one spot in the world rankings. He passes Gerwyn Price, who has now dropped to seventh place on the PDC Order of Merit. Losing finalist Pietreczko has progressed two spots and can now call himself number 31 in the world.
