Dimitri van den Bergh has sealed his opportunity to return to the
World Series of Darts by going all the way with victory over Gary Anderson 11-5 in the final of the
Nordic Darts Masters in Copenhagen.
It is a maiden World Series of Darts triumph for 'The Dreammaker' who went 7-0 and 8-1 up only to survive a late onslaught from Anderson who prolonged the tie and made Van den Bergh work in the end.
But it is the Belgian who heads into a busy part of the schedule including the World Cup of Darts and World Matchplay with a return to the winners' circle.
Van den Bergh dominated early on going into the interval 5-0 up including a 130 checkout as he was almost flawless on his doubles while Anderson on the other hand was sat at 0/5 having darts in three of the legs to get off the mark but spurning his chances in each one.
A 180 left 81 after nine on the Anderson throw for Van den Bergh who went into a 6-0 lead and sealed an 11-dart break. He missed darts to consolidate but Anderson missed three darts to break as he continued to fail to get off the mark and it was 7-0 to Dimi.
Anderson had a wry celebration as he finally got off the mark to avert the whitewash as Van den Bergh looked angry to let a leg slip. He added another on double 15 to make it 8-2 at the next break.
Anderson seemed to find another gear with back to back 180’s and produced a 61 checkout on double nine to make it three legs on the spin break and make it 8-3. It was suddenly 8-4 with Anderson consolidating.
An 86 checkout saw Van den Bergh stop the rot and make it 9-4. A 72 checkout saw him go one away. He missed a match dart from 120 and returned for more only to hand Anderson a break opportunity to make it 10-5. Finally though he got over the line on double 18.
