Dirk van Duijvenbode was the big winner last Friday at the Darts Gala in Gummersbach. Six Tour Card holders were present at this PDC Europe exhibition tournament.
Van Duijvenbode did not have to drive very far to attend this event, as Gummersbach is not very far from the Dutch border. In addition to Van Duijvenbode,
Raymond van Barneveld had also traveled to this Darts Gala.
However, the two Dutchmen did not meet during the tournament. Van Duijvenbode was in the first group with
Max Hopp and
Josh Rock. Van Duijvenbode managed to win both duels, while Rock advanced to the semifinals as number two after a win over Hopp. Van Barneveld meanwhile, was in the other group, but lost to both
Martin Schindler and
Florian Hempel. In the end, Hempel advanced to the final four as group winner, while Schindler completed the lineup for the semifinals.
Rock dealt with Hempel in the first semifinal, while Van Duijvenbode triumphed against Schindler. As a result, Rock and Van Duijvenbode faced each other in the final for the second time this evening. Just like in the group stage, the win went to the Dutchman. Van Duijvenbode defeated Rock after a last leg-decider 4-3.
